A Chinese company is investing heavily to restore two Maine paper mills it bought last year and turn them into sustainable, long-term businesses.

The head of the company’s U.S. operations said his company, ND Paper, wants to improve efficiency and update operations at the former Catalyst Paper Mill in Rumford and the former Expera Old Town pulp mill, both of which ND bought last year.

The Chinese customer has confirmed its trust in the A.Celli Group, signing a new contract for the order of the E-WIND® P-100 paper rewinder, whose delivery is scheduled for July 2019.

The new rewinder is destined to the Shandong plant and will be installed downstream of the PM36 and PM37 paper lines; it has the design speed of 2500 mpm, with the mother roll width of 6660 mm and will be dedicated to the production process of Medium Liner Board paper.

Valmet will supply a Valmet DNA automation system and a Valmet IQ quality management solution to Suzhou Taison Paper Co., Ltd. in China. The systems will be installed on two tissue machines, enabling the mill to increase production efficiency and improve product quality.

The order was included in Valmet's first quarter 2019 orders received. The delivery will take place in the third quarter of 2019.

Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Limited (Group) announced its annual results for the year ended 31 December 2018. During the year, the Group’s total revenue increased by 24.7% to HK$32.21 billion ($4.1 billion), compared to HK$25.84 billion ($3.3 billion) in 2017. Annual net profit was HK$4.88 billion ($626 million) and net profit per ton was HK$797 ($102.2), as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

Shandong Sun Paper in China, part of the Shandong Sun Holdings Group, has selected Tieto to modernize their business systems and enable digitalization. The business renewal is based on Tieto Integrated Paper Solution (TIPS) for pulp and paper industry. The new solutions enable better production planning and optimisation to gain significant production efficiency improvements both in costs and material.

The startup of the Jianhui PM 3 on January 3, 2019, marked the 19th successful NipcoFlex press rebuild by Voith in China in the past two years. Consistent with past performance, the new press is showing excellent results from the beginning.

All NipcoFlex rebuilds have improved customer performance substantially. Voith’s 20th NipcoFlex rebuild in China is already in execution, and the customer is looking forward to the benefits.

Valmet will supply a grade conversion rebuild for Shangrao City Lulin Paper Co., Ltd. in Shangrao, China. According to Valmet, Shangrao City Lulin Paper plans to increase the capacity of fluting grades it produces and expand the company by building a new greenfield mill.

After being relocated to the site of the new mill, PM 5 be converted to produce fluting grades with a design basis weight range of 60-100 g/m2.

A.Celli High-speed iDEAL® Tissue Machines, installed at Yibin Paper, a Chinese customer, successfully produce unbleached tissue paper, using 100% Bamboo Slush Pulp.

Four Tissue Machines are currently installed and, after the TM2, started-up last September 15th, also TM3 and TM4 (with a 16’ Yankee) and TM5 (with 18’ Yankee) have been started-up. The operating speed of the first Tissue Machine has been increased to 1500m/min in less than a month.

Valmet announced that it recently opened new offices in Vietnam, Malaysia and Sapporo, Japan to further strengthen its operation and local presence in Asia Pacific.

Cellwood Machinery said that a Grubbens Vertical Pulper has been successfully commissioned at SCG's Vina Kraft Paper in Binh Duong Province, Vietnam.

The pulper project, which took place in September 2018, involved Cellwood Machinery rebuilding a bale pulper at Vina Kraft Paper's mill. The installation consisted of a new rotor unit 105/84 SF, engineering for internal lead plates, as well as a new drive unit.

Rebuilding the mill's pulper was part of an energy saving project that also resulted in improved pulp quality, Cellwood said.

Vina Kraft Paper Co., Ltd. is the largest packaging paper manufacturer in Vietnam.

A.Celli Paper is pleased to confirm its ongoing and valuable collaboration with the Chinese group Shanying Huazhong Paper Industry Co., Ltd., enshrined in the agreement for the supply of two latest generation E-WIND® P100 rewinders, for the mill located in Jingzhou District, China.

Voith announces it will increase prices on paper machine clothing in North America by 3 percent effective February 1, 2019. All orders placed before January 31, 2019 will be invoiced at the current pricing. This price adjustment is driven by notable increases in key raw material costs, combined with global inflationary factors in labor and freight.

Michelman will celebrate the grand opening of the Michelman (China) Sustainability Center (MSC) on January 17, 2019 at the company’s Shanghai offices located in the East Park of the Shanghai Pudong Kangqiao Industrial Zone. Metso announced on October 26, 2018 its decision to invest in a new greenfield valve technology center in Jiaxing, China. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new plant took place today. The new technology center will start operations in spring 2020 and will serve the local and global markets.

IT Tech Packaging, Inc. ("IT Tech Packaging" or the "Company"), a leading manufacturer and distributor of diversified paper products in North China, today announced the commercial launch of tissue paper production, following the completion of construction and equipment installation, the receipt of proper approvals, including wastewater discharge permit, from local authorities, and the success of trial production of its first tissue paper production line (the "PM8 Production Line"). The PM8 Production Line is located at Wei County Industrial Park in Hebei Province, China, with annual production capacity of 15,000 tonnes. The Company also plans to start the construction of another tissue paper production line ("PM9") with annual production capacity of additional 15,000 tonnes in the next several months.

Shanying International has renamed its first pulp and paper mill in the U.S., Phoenix Paper Wickliffe LLC.

Shanying International, the third-largest producer of containerboard in China, purchased the idled Wickliffe, Kentucky mill earlier this year from Verso Corporation for $16 million. The deal was conducted on behalf of Shanying by China-based investment group, Global Win Wickliffe LLC.

In the 3Q/18, Chinese importation of hardwood chips reached a record high, and Vietnam substantially increased its shipment as compared to 2017, reports the WRQ. While the average import price has only increased slightly in the past year, Australian prices have gone up substantially from the end of 2017.

Within the end of 2018 A.Celli Paper will deliver a second high performance E-Wind® P100 rewinder to the customer Dongguan Jintian Paper Co.

In 2017 A.Celli Paper started-up an E-WIND® P100 rewinder at the Sichuan Jintian Paper plant, for a project of 1.2 million-tons producing grey cardboard. The rewinder, which runs 5700 mm master reels, with a maximum design speed of 2400 mpm, has successfully passed the performance test, with full acceptance by the customer. At present the A.Celli E-WIND® P100 rewinder works at full capacity.

Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) has begun using four AHEAD-2.0L PRODERGY tissue machines at its OKI mill, in South Sumatra, Indonesia, as part of a series of AHEAD-2.0L PRODERGY tissue machines.

These four machines, included in a major contract between Toscotec and APP, started production ahead of schedule, in just 60 days between August 14th and October 14th 2018.

Stora Enso and Sulapac continue to combat the global problem of plastic waste by launching a demo for sustainable drinking straws at Slush 2018, a leading startup event that gathers 20 000 tech enthusiasts from around the world. The demo, which targets production on an industrial scale, is designed to replace traditional plastic straws with renewable ones. The straws are based on Sulapac’s biocomposite material – made of wood and natural binders – designed to be recycled via industrial composting and biodegrade in marine environments.

According to Euwid, Suzano commits to dissolve Fibria's exclusive sales agreement with Klabin and transfer assets and business in Europe to Klabin.

The European Commission (EC) approved the acquisition of Brazil's pulp manufacturer Fibria by Suzano pursuant to the EU Merger Regulation. The competition authority says that the decision is conditional on Suzano's full compliance with the commitments offered by it.

In Henan Province, Xinxiang Xinya Paper Group Co. Ltd holds the first place in the paper industry. The company mainly produces white coated and printing papers. The Group’s production capacity is 800,000 tons per year.

In 2005 A.Celli Paper already supplied the customer with a rewinder AC842 for the PM1 machine with the same characteristics as the one recently sold: suitable for processing medium-high weight paper grades (between 180 and 400 gsm), design speed 2000 mpm and untrimmed roll width of 3420 mm.

Kemira has received final authority permits and closed the deal announced on September 29, 2017. Kemira has formed a joint venture with an AKD producer in China. Kemira forms a joint venture – Kemira TC Wanfeng Chemicals Yanzhou (“NewCo”) – with Shandong Tiancheng Wanfeng Chemical Technology (“TC Wanfeng”).

NewCo strengthens Kemira’s position as a leading global supplier for the Pulp & Paper industry. NewCo will mainly produce AKD wax and its key raw material fatty acid chloride (FACL). AKD wax, where the main component is based on renewable raw material, is a sizing chemical used in board and paper manufacturing to create resistance against liquid absorption. Kemira is the global market leader in sizing chemicals.

Koppers Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Koppers Holdings Inc., recently announced that the company's 75-percent owned subsidiary, Koppers (Jiangsu) Carbon Chemical Company Limited (KJCC) is providing soft pitch product to its major customer in China under a special purchase order in an effort to manage product inventories at the plant in the fourth quarter.  The special purchase order will expire at the end of this year.  This purchase order is not intended to either resolve or affect the previously disclosed contractual dispute between KJCC and its major customer.

To respond to the growing global demand in the valve market, Metso has decided to invest in a new green-field valve technology center in Jiaxing, China. The new-build plant will strengthen Metso's valve and related products production capabilities and increase capacity for customers across various process industries, both in China and globally. Metso expects to invest a total of approx. EUR 10 million by 2020. The new technology center will start operations in spring 2020.

The new factory in Sepang, also the site of the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix, will allow Lee and Man Paper to expand its capabilities in high-grade packaging paper. At full production, the plant will be able to churn out 700,000 tons of paper and 550,000 tons of pulp.

Valmet's delivery of a tissue machine restart package to Xiamen Sin Yang Paper TM 1 in China concluded with the restart of the machine in September 2018, with a speed of 1,100 m/min. The scope of Valmet's delivery included necessary project management, maintenance, spare parts, and the restart of the tissue machine, which was originally delivered by Valmet but had been idle due to market reasons since 2014.
