Voith Group announced that it successfully completed the acquisition of Toscotec S.p.A. on April 30, 2020.

Voith now owns 90 percent of the shares of Toscotec.

"Toscotec's acquisition matches Voith's targets of strategic growth in a perfect way," said Andreas Endters, President and CEO of Voith Paper. "Toscotec's range of products and services effectively supports our portfolio and further strengthens our position as a full-line supplier in important areas of the paper industry."

IT Tech Packaging, Inc. today announced plans for the commercial launch of a new tissue paper production line, PM10 in North China. The company said on April 13 it signed a purchase agreement with a machine supplier for the delivery of PM10.

No further details were provided about the machine capacity or start-up date.

Small paper mills on Monday said that over 35,000 containers with imported waste paper are held up at various inland container depots (ICDs) and container freight stations (CFSs) despite the government's directive to waive port logistics charges.

Valmet will supply a fine paper making line with stock preparation, an extensive scope of automation and a recovery boiler for Sun Paper in Beihai, China. In addition, another stock preparation line for a different Sun Paper site will be supplied.

The new 11,150-mm-wide fine paper machine is designed to produce 500,000 tonnes per year of high-quality woodfree uncoated paper (WFU) grades in the basis weight range of 50-100 g/m2. The design speed of the machine is 1,800 m/min.

The coronavirus epidemic in China has resulted in sharply reduced importation of forest products in early 2020. During January and February, the import value of logs, lumber, pulp and wood chips totaled 4.6 billion dollars. This was down 26% and 14%, from the same periods in 2018 and 2019 respectively, reports the Wood Resource Quarterly (WRQ).

Valmet will supply a coated board making line (PM 2) with extensive packages of automation and Industrial Internet solutions for APP's Guangxi Jingui Pulp and Paper's (GJPP) Qinzhou mill in China.

The value of the order will not be disclosed, however Valmet said that the total value of an order of this type and scope is typically around EUR 150-200 million.

Jan. 28, 2020 - Sun Paper has selected technology leader ABB to fulfil two orders for its facilities in Laos and Shandong, China. The first order comprises new drives for the company's paper machine 1 (PM1) and paper machine 2 (PM2) at its Laos mill, while the second includes a synchronous motor, motor starting equipment, excitation protection control and process drives for chemical pulp production at its plant in Shandong, eastern China.

Jan. 21, 2020 (Press Release) - Valmet is planning changes in the Fabrics Business Unit which is part of the Services Business Line in order to secure the unit's profitability and future competitiveness. The most important action in the preliminary plan is to move the dryer fabric and wide filter fabric production from Tampere in Finland to Valmet's unit in Portugal. The possible actions will have employee impacts. The functions under consideration are part of Valmet Technologies Oy.

Valmet and Fabio Perini have established an Industrial Internet ecosystem partnership to strengthen collaboration in the tissue industry. The target is to allow tissue producers and converters to work together more efficiently, and to exchange knowledge and resources for the benefit of their customers.

The partnership combines Valmet's comprehensive tissue making technology and process optimization know-how with Fabio Perini’s strong expertise in complete solutions for converting and packaging machines as well as in the converting process and technology.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has acquired converting operations in China and the U.S. from Shunde Lucas and Altior Industries. Through the transaction, Ahlstrom-Munksjö will have local filter converting capacity in China and a foothold for expanding sales of other products within the Advanced Liquid Technologies business. Local presence in Asia will shorten delivery lead times and enable Ahlstrom-Munksjö to serve its customers even better.

Ahlstrom-Munksjö has signed a non-binding letter of intent with the majority shareholders of Hebei Minglian New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. to acquire the company, comprising a modern greenfield decor paper plant in the city of Xingtai, Hebei Province, China. The letter of intent contains customary exclusivity undertakings on the part of the sellers with respect to the considered transaction.

The revenue of the packaging materials market in China amounted to $69B in 2018, going down by -6.1% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, the total market indicated buoyant growth from 2008 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. 

On November 1st, Guangxi Xianglan (Shangfeng) Paper and Baosuo Enterprise Group signed a contract for an annual output of 50,000 tons of high-grade tissue paper turnkey project which includes two Baotuo paper machines, Baosuo converting machine and related equipment.

Baosuo Enterprise will provide a turnkey project from stock preparation to finished product packaging. This is not only the extension based on previous collaborate projects, but also sincere cooperation between the two parties after establishing a strategic cooperation.

Veolia Water Technologies will supply a chloride and potassium removal system to Lee & Man's integrated pulp and tissue mill in Chongqing, China. The pulping technology at the site is based bamboo fiber.

The value of the order was not disclosed.

Veolia explained that its patented HPD® Enhanced Chloride Removal Process (ECRP™) uses a two-stage crystallization process, which is designed to treat 72 tons per day of precipitator ash to recover 93% of the sodium and remove 89% of the chlorides and 96% of potassium in the ash.

Stora Enso today announced that it has completed the divestment of its 60% equity stake in the Dawang Mill in China to its joint venture partner, Shandong Huatai Paper.

After this transaction, Stora Enso has no paper production in China.

The former joint venture, Stora Enso Huatai (Shandong) Paper Company Limited, operated the Dawang paper mill at Dongying in Shandong province in China. The mill has an annual production capacity of 140,000 tonnes of super-calendered (SC) magazine paper and other publication paper grades based on recovered fibre.

ANDRITZ has received an order from Dezhou Taiding New Material Science and Technology Co., Ltd. (Dezhou Taiding) to supply a P-RC APMP (Pre-Conditioning Refiner Chemical Alkaline Peroxide Mechanical Pulp) fiberline with a capacity of 400 t/d to the mill in Dezhou, Shandong, China. The new system will process poplar as raw material, and the fiber produced will be used on the company's own paper machines for P&W (printing and writing paper) and board grades.

Top 20 Papermaking Enterprises in China in 2019

Sun Bio received an air permit Monday from the state, allowing the company to begin construction of a $1.8 billion pulp mill first announced for Clark County more than three years ago.

Some 350 people will be employed at the mill when it opens -- up from the 250 employees projected in April 2016. Each job will pay about $52,000 a year, the company has said previously.

Investment in the project also increased from $1.3 billion to $1.8 billion when Shandong Sun Paper Industry changed the project's mission in early 2018. That change forced the China-based company to restart the application process for the necessary air and water permits from what is now the Department of Energy and Environment and its Division of Environmental Quality.

In the first week of September, Odisha government organized a roadshow which was attended by Chinese industries captains and executives at Guangzhou to promote the state’s investment climate and to invite Chinese investors to Odisha.

During the roadshow, the industries minister highlighted some of the recent reforms implemented by the state government to ensure ease of doing business in the state.

A news story on the Arkansas Democrat Gazette's website said that Sun Paper received an air permit from the state of Arkansas on Sept. 23, which allows the company to start construction of a proposed $1.8 billion pulp and paper mill.

The mill project was formally announced on April 26, 2016 when Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson signed a memorandum of understanding with Hongxin Li, the founder and chairman of Sun Paper. The original plan called for an investment of $1-1.3 billion

Nine Dragons Paper Ltd, a public listed paper manufacturing company in Mainland China intends to set up a unit near Paradip, its first facility in India.

The company based in Guangdong (China) is the largest manufacturer of recycled paper in the world. It has production bases across eight locations in China, a joint venture company in Vietnam and two paper pulp mills it acquired in USA.

Sun Paper, Voith’s long-term partner in China, recently awarded two new orders to the paper machine pioneer. This sets a new record for cooperation between Voith and Sun Paper with 11 paper machines having now been ordered in total.

The new order includes PM 39, a graphic paper machine, and the major components for PM 40, an MG paper machine. Both machines will be installed at Sun Paper’s Yanzhou facility, where PM 21, 24, 29, 36 and 37 are also located.

AstenJohnson CEO Kevin Frank on Aug. 30 announced that the proposed merger of AstenJohnson and Heimbach would not take place.

“We regret to announce that the proposed transaction to merge the Heimbach and AstenJohnson PMC (Paper Machine Clothing) businesses has been called off,” Frank said. “While both companies have a high level of respect for each other and saw great potential to merge, the obstacles simply proved too great to overcome at this time.”

A Chinese company is investing heavily to restore two Maine paper mills it bought last year and turn them into sustainable, long-term businesses.

The head of the company’s U.S. operations said his company, ND Paper, wants to improve efficiency and update operations at the former Catalyst Paper Mill in Rumford and the former Expera Old Town pulp mill, both of which ND bought last year.

The Chinese customer has confirmed its trust in the A.Celli Group, signing a new contract for the order of the E-WIND® P-100 paper rewinder, whose delivery is scheduled for July 2019.

Valmet will supply a Valmet DNA automation system and a Valmet IQ quality management solution to Suzhou Taison Paper Co., Ltd. in China. The systems will be installed on two tissue machines, enabling the mill to increase production efficiency and improve product quality.

The order was included in Valmet's first quarter 2019 orders received. The delivery will take place in the third quarter of 2019.
