South Korea’s No 1 paper manufacturer, Hansol Paper, is one step closer to being counted among the world’s top 20 paper industry players. Responding to growing demand for paper-based packaging, Hansol has established a new packaging division that develops innovative and sustainable solutions.

To date, the expansion of Hansol’s newly reinforced Shintanjin mill makes Hansol the largest thermal paper manufacturer globally in terms of capacity. “We have invested significant efforts in applying ‘just-in-time’ principles and implementing a full-fledged supply chain management system,” says Paul Han, CEO and president. “We constantly innovate, minimise costs and maximise productivity, so putting all these visible and invisible parameters together, we ensure business success.”

Hansol is ready for the global market’s dynamic and complex demands as it serves leaders in the packaging, textile, and food and beverage industries. The 55-year-old producer of high-quality printing and writing papers, boxboards and speciality papers is expanding its product range to feature the latest material breakthroughs and environmentally friendly processes. Its dye sublimation paper, for instance, allows digital textile printing from paper direct onto the fabric, saving water and making the process more sustainable.

The company also continues to develop paper packaging products that viably replace plastics. The new barrier paper provides barrier performance shown by plastic and aluminium, combining oxygen and moisture-blocking performance with paper’s eco-friendliness. “We have a solid, well-balanced portfolio, so we can respond flexibly and quickly to environmental changes and requirements,” Han says.

Eager to capture the region’s packaging space, Hansol has increased its presence in the business areas of boxboards and container boards not just in the domestic market, but also in Asia. “Hansol creates value for customers by offering product quality, service and customer orientation in one complete package,” Han says.

“We are primed to become a leader in the global paper industry.”
