Since 2017, under the national policy of reducing excess capacity, China's paper industry embarked on a rapid and large-scale expansion of production capacity, shattering the previous supply-demand balance. Since 2021, paper prices have remained sluggish for four consecutive years, leaving the industry heavily indebted and mired in losses.

On July 22, 2025, Liansheng Pulp & Paper successfully started up their newest coated board making line PM 2. The board machine, with a wire width of 8.85 meters, produces folding boxboard grades and will further strengthen Liansheng Pulp & Paper's coated board product portfolio and enhance their market competitiveness.
Suzano, the world’s largest pulp producer, announces its results for the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25), reporting sales of 3.7 million tonnes of pulp and paper. Sales increased 28% over the same period in 2024 (2Q24), mainly reflecting the strong operational contribution of the new Ribas do Rio Pardo pulp mill, whose production started in July 2024. Net revenue in the quarter totaled R$13.3 billion, a 16% increase compared to 2Q24.

Chung Hwa Pulp Corporation has awarded international technology group ANDRITZ an order to supply environmentally leading chemical recovery technologies for its pulp mill in Hualien, Taiwan.
Valmet will deliver key pulp mill technology to Shandong Sun Paper’s new Yandian pulp mill in the Shandong province in China. Valmet’s delivery includes cooking and fiberline, a recovery boiler, and ash crystallization. The scope also includes analyzers and measurements for fiber line as well as an optimizer and safety related systems for the recovery boiler. The new mill will produce 600,000 tonnes of pulp per year and is scheduled to start up during the last quarter of 2026.
Nine Dragons Paper, has successfully started up a pulp mill supplied by ANDRITZ at its new integrated pulp and paper production plant in Hubei Jianli, China.
The new state-of-the-art mill includes world-leading process technology and production equipment.
